REACH: PFHxA restriction, first phase
PFHxA and its salts (25 ppb) and related substances (1,000 ppb) are restricted in consumer clothing textiles and accessories, footwear, food-contact paper and board, consumer mixtures and cosmetics.
December 2026
EUDR applies to large and medium operators
Operators placing cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya or wood products on the EU market, or exporting them, need a due diligence statement with plot geolocation.
PPWR: recycled-content method due
The Commission must adopt the implementing acts for calculating and verifying recycled content in plastic packaging, the basis for the 2030 minimums.

CBAM certificate price for Q4 2026 due
The last quarterly price. From 2027 the certificate price becomes a weekly average.
February 2027
CBAM certificate sales open
Member States start selling CBAM certificates on the common central platform. From 2027, declarants hold certificates for at least 50% of embedded emissions at each quarter end.
March 2027
CSRD Omnibus transposition deadline
Member States bring the new CSRD scope and value chain protections into national law.
May 2027
Germany: declaration of completeness for 2026
Companies at or above 80 t glass, 50 t paper and board, or 30 t lightweight packaging in 2026 file an audited declaration in LUCID.
June 2027
EUDR applies to micro and small operators
Micro and small operators follow six months after larger companies, unless their wood products were already covered by the EU Timber Regulation.
September 2027
First annual CBAM declaration
The declaration for 2026 imports is due, and certificates for 2026 embedded emissions are surrendered by the same date.
October 2027
REACH: PFHxA restriction, second phase
The same limits extend to other consumer textiles, leather, furs and hides beyond clothing and accessories.
August 2028
PPWR harmonised sorting labels
Packaging carries the EU label showing its material composition, 24 months after the implementing acts if that is later.

ISO 9001:2026 published
The new edition of the quality management standard adopts the latest Harmonized Structure and puts more weight on leadership, quality culture and risks and opportunities. Certified suppliers plan their move from the 2015 edition.

PPWR applies across the EU
Conformity assessment, technical documentation and an EU declaration of conformity are needed before packaging is placed on the market. Heavy metals are capped at 100 mg/kg combined and PFAS limits apply to food-contact packaging.
Germany: VerpackDG replaces the Packaging Act
Registration in LUCID, system participation and data reporting continue. Producers based abroad that sell directly to end users in Germany must now appoint an authorised representative.
REACH: formaldehyde release limits for articles
Articles may not release formaldehyde above 0.062 mg/m³ (furniture and wood-based articles) or 0.080 mg/m³ (other articles) under the Appendix 14 test conditions. Road vehicles follow from 6 August 2027.

UFLPA Entity List: 43 companies added
Described by commentators as the largest single expansion so far, with many additions in aluminium, apparel, cotton and tomatoes. Re-screen suppliers and their inputs against the updated list.
CBAM extension to 180 downstream products moves forward
The European Parliament ENVI committee adopted its report on the proposal to extend CBAM to steel- and aluminium-intensive downstream products (COM(2025) 989). The plenary vote was scheduled for September 2026. Not yet law.
France: authorised representative for producers based abroad
Law No 2026-602 inserts Article L. 541-10-9-1 into the Environmental Code: any person not established in France that is subject to EPR appoints, by written mandate, a representative established in France.
CBAM certificate price for Q2 2026: €75.28
The quarterly average of EU ETS auction prices, applying to goods imported in Q2 2026. The Q1 2026 price was €75.36 per tonne of CO2e.
Revised ESRS and voluntary standard adopted
The Commission adopted revised sustainability reporting standards with over 60% fewer mandatory datapoints, and a voluntary standard that sets the value chain cap. They apply once the scrutiny period by Parliament and Council ends.

EUDR review: application dates confirmed
The Commission concluded that no further changes to the basic act are needed, so 30 December 2026 and 30 June 2027 stand. A draft delegated act proposes scope changes, including excluding leather (proposed, not law).

ISO 14001:2026 published
The revised environmental management standard is out. Certified sites move from the 2015 edition during the transition period set for certification bodies.
March 2026
CBAM: authorised declarant applications
Importers above the 50-tonne threshold who applied for authorisation by this date may keep importing provisionally until the authority decides.
Omnibus I narrows CSRD scope
Directive (EU) 2026/470 limits sustainability reporting to companies with more than 1,000 employees and over €450 million net turnover, and protects suppliers with up to 1,000 employees from data requests beyond the voluntary standard.
